There are so many wonderful day trips to take in my area of New York State that are a drive of an hour or less.  An hour is my limit for a day trip, anything more and I prefer to stay overnight.  One of our favorite haunts is Cooperstown.  Yes, the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame but there is so much more.  Although you can take the New York State Thruway or Interstate 88, my preferred drive is NY Route 20.  We are on Route 20 so often for so many destinations.  It is a beautiful drive of rolling hills and scenic views.

A quick easy 60 minute drive west on NY Route 20 to
to Route 80.  Route 80 hugs the coast of the beautiful Otsego Lake, past the Glimmerglass Opera House, The Fenimore Museum,The Farmer's Museum and the Otseaga Resort Hotel you end up on Cooperstown's main drag.  Before stopping we head directly to  The Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard in Fly Creek, NY.  Click on the pictures for a closer look.

Then we head to Ommegang Brewery for lunch at their cafe.
The lunch menu is made up of an eclectic mix of Belgian themed foods including stews, crepes, frites, waffles and charcuterie.

Then it is back to Cooperstown for a walk along Main Street to visit the shops and bakeries.  Then down Frair Street to stroll by the lake.

After a wonderful day we head home east on Route 20 to enjoy our donuts and pie.
