OUT AND ABOUT

Another great Fall getaway, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, New York.  The last several years Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow have been establishing themselves as a Halloween destination.  About a two hour drive south on the New York State Thruway from our home, but we prefer to take NY Route 9.  This route adds an hour to the drive but it is much prettier and more things to stop, do and see.  But the biggest advantage, I don't have to drive over the Tappan Zee Bridge.  Those familiar with it will understand.
Whether you visit for the newly infused Halloween festivities or not, there are so many things to do in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

Entering this living history museum, you step back into the year 1750 and the lives of the Anglo-Dutch Family who lived and worked here.

Four generations of Rockefellers lived here along with our Governor Nelson Rockefeller.
(Rocky is my personal favorite)
Visit the gardens, extensive art collections and relive history.

This is a pretty fabulous Gothic castle and in 1970 and 1971 it was the home of Barnabas Collins in THE HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS and THE NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS.

This is my favorite of all the mansions in the area.  Home to Washington Irving from 1783-1859.
Washington Irving lived here.....enough said?

Great shopping and dinning in both Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow along with history and nature.

With the Headless Horseman Bridge

And I think you all know this guy?

And for more shopping, White Plains is only 14 minutes away.  In the Summer the very pretty town of Rye, NY is only 19 minutes away; with Rye Playland.
For a little bit of nature, The Rockefeller State Park Preserve has miles of paved and unpaved trails.
And of course the beautiful Hudson River which leads you back to the impressive Capital District.
