OUT AND ABOUT
Today is the 65th Albany (NY) Tulip Festival in Washington Park; it starts with guide tours of the tulips on Thursday. The tours are led by the city's Gardener and the Visitor Center Director.
On Friday at State Street and Lodge Street starts the scrubbing of the streets. The traditional Dutch ceremony of scrubbing the streets clean before a big celebration has served as the official kickoff to Tulip Festival weekend for 67 years. This unique Albany event will include Mayor Kathy Sheehan's Tulip Festival opening proclamation, and a procession from City Hall featuring a bagpiper from the Sons & Daughters of Erin Pipe Band, the Dutch Settlers Society (in full traditional Dutch dress), local scout troops and the 2015 Tulip Queen finalists.
On Friday there is also a Carillon concert on Albany City Halls Carillon and a luncheon.
Saturday and Sunday there are a variety of concerts, events and activities in Washington Park.
But the day belongs to the tulips.
Over 100,000 tulips are in perfect bloom for this annual event. And although it is going to be unusually warm this weekend, the cool Spring we had and the dry conditions this weekend; are making some beautiful blooms,
